ABOUT
This environmentally driven work aims to raise awareness of effects of plastics polluting the world‘s seas and oceans, with particular emphasis on the fatal impact it can have on wildlife. Whilst most people are able to easily recognize the difference between a piece of plastic and a live organism, most marine mammals and other sea creatures cannot - often mistake discarded plastics for food. Inspired by Atkin’s botanical cyanotpye studies, the main focus was to transform plastic waste into beautiful, yet unidentifiable objects and highlight just how easy it is for animals to mistake it for oceanic life. If their digestive system is not ruined by the plastic micro particles, they are being found suffocated and strangled, all around the world’s beaches.
KEY: For example 2xPET/PETE1.450Y represents 2 pieces of Polyethylene Terephthalate plastic (polymere group) with the recycling number 1, and it will take 450 years to biodegrade.
